The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, non-governmental, not for profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. It provides standard setting, trademark assurance, and accreditation services for companies and organizations interested in responsible forestry. Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic, and ecological needs of present and future generations.
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is the newest certification system to gain worldwide acceptance. Its primary goal is to achieve compatibility between independent forest certification systems to implement the highest standards for sustainable forest management around the world. PEFC has currently achieved mutual recognition from thirty certification systems, including the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
PEFC/20-31-124
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is endorsed by the PEFC. The program represents environmental, social, and economic interests. The SFI standard promotes sustainable forest management, which does not only work to protect forests. The initiative also works to protect species at risk and their habitats and water quality. Fire & Flavor's Maple and Cedar products are now recognized by the SFI.
