New HERO™ Grill Has Lower Emissions Than Traditional Instant-Light Charcoal
ATHENS, GA: The new HERO™ Grill is changing outdoor cooking by making on the go grilling easy and eco-friendly. Recent environmental testing shows HERO Charcoal Pods produce 73% less emissions than traditional instant-light charcoal.
The HERO Grill uses a single use, biodegradable charcoal pod for simple, clean grilling almost anywhere outdoors. The quick lighting charcoal pods are all-natural with low VOC and 60 minutes of grilling time. It was recently tested for emissions and volatile organic compounds by Horizon Air Measurement services as part of certification by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as compliant with South Coast Air Quality Management District Rule 1174. The HERO™ Charcoal Pods showed an emission rate of 0.00541b VOC/Start, which is 73% less than the standard.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District's (SCAQMD) Governing Board adopted Rule 1174, Control of Volatile Organic Compound Emissions from the Ignition of Barbecue Charcoal, at its October 5, 1990 meeting. This new rule became effective January 1, 1992, and imposed an emission limit of 0.020 pound of volatile organic compounds (VOC) per start resulting from barbecue charcoal ignition. By the effective date, all products used for the ignition of barbecue charcoal—other than electric starters (probes), chimneys using paper tinder, natural gas or propane— require testing to certify compliance with the 0.020 pound per start emission limit for volatile organic compounds (VOC) before they can be supplied, offered for sale, or sold within the District's jurisdiction.
